Cold-Formed Steel Framing for Autodesk® Revit®
Steel stud framing that keeps up with the model.
CFS Framing builds cold-formed steel framing for walls and floors inside Autodesk® Revit® — track, studs, openings, bridging and clips, in SSMA or METALCON sections. Frame from your own rules, let it re-frame when the model changes, then pull a weight takeoff and dimensioned shop drawings.
- 01Track, studs, jambs, headers & sills from your rules
- 02SSMA in imperial, METALCON in metric projects
- 03Bridging, multiple studs & clip connectors
- 04Cut list & weight takeoff to Excel
- 05Dimensioned shop-drawing sheets for walls & floors
Automated Steel Stud Wall Framing in Revit
Every C-section where it belongs
Select walls and frame them: base and top track, studs at your O.C. spacing, end studs and the studs at every L corner and T intersection. Each member is turned so its web sits on the right plane and its flanges face the right way — measured after placement, not assumed.
- Studs at any O.C. spacing between base and top track
- L-corner and T-intersection studs, resolved once per corner
- Sloped and gable tops: one track per slope, studs cut square
- Multiple studs — nested, back to back or toe to toe
Headers, Jambs & Sills From the Real Rough Opening
Pick the build-up, see it before it is placed
Doors, windows and wall openings are framed to their real rough opening. Choose the header and jamb build-up per opening, per family type or as a default, and the dialog draws the header section and jamb plan from the sections you picked.
- Back-to-back, boxed, single with strongback or single-track headers
- Single, boxed or back-to-back jambs
- Cripples above headers and below sills, infill studs where needed
- Bridging rows stop at the opening — they never run through it
SSMA Sections in Imperial, METALCON in Metric
The plugin follows your project units
CFS Framing reads the project's length units at the start of every command. The framing rules stay the same; the sizes, names, dialogs and BOM switch to the catalog your market builds with.
Imperial projects
| Studs & joists | 362S162-43 … 1200S162-97 |
| Track | 362T125-43 and up |
| Dialogs | Inches, feet-inches |
| Takeoff | Lineal feet, lb/ft, lb |
Metric projects
| Studs & joists | 40CA085 … 250CA16, perforated 90CA085p |
| Track | 42C085 … 253C10 |
| Dialogs | Millimetres |
| Takeoff | Metres, kg/m, kg |
Cold-Formed Steel Floor Joist Framing
Joists, rim track and openings
Frame any floor along its span: joists at your O.C. spacing, rim track around the edges, headers and trimmers around openings, and rows of blocking perpendicular to the joists wherever you need them.
- Joists at any O.C. spacing, along the span direction
- Rim track on every edge, framed openings
- Shift joists and flip the O.C. layout start in place
Bridging, Blocking & Clip Connectors
The pieces that usually get drawn by hand
Add rows of bridging across the studs in track, stud or channel, full length or one piece per bay. Place clip angles at stud-to-track, stud-to-header and joist-to-rim connections, hosted on the member they are fastened to so they move with the framing.
- Bridging profile, orientation and layout per row
- RCA-range clip sizes, or your shop's own clip
- Delete Connectors removes only the plugin's clips
Cut List & Steel Weight Takeoff to Excel
Pieces, length and weight per section
Export BOM writes an Excel workbook with a cut list per wall and floor, a summary by member role and a grand total per section designation — pieces, lineal length, developed width, weight per length and total weight. Clips are counted, and framing inside linked models can be included.
- Cut List, Summary and Grand Total sheets
- Weights in lb or kg, matching the project units
- Reads linked modules — each instance counted
Dimensioned CFS Shop Drawings & Assembly Views
From model to panel drawings
Turn any framed wall or floor into a set of dimensioned shop drawings. CFS Framing builds the assembly views — elevations, plan detail, sections, 3D, part list and material takeoff, on a sheet if you want one — then dimensions and labels them from presets you can map to each wall type.
- One dimension chain per framing group, to centres or faces
- Sloped-top heights and peak positions dimensioned
- Grid markers drawn where model grids cross the wall
- Re-dimension or re-tag any time — each deletes separately
Watch CFS Framing Frame a Steel Stud Wall in Revit
Walls, openings, floors, clips and a weight takeoff — all inside Revit.
Built from real light gauge steel work, for people who detail it in Revit
Every stud, track, header and joist is a normal Revit structural framing member inside an assembly, so schedules, tags and quantities work the way you expect.
Move an opening or change a wall and auto-update re-frames it inside the same assembly, so its views survive. Or refresh on demand with Update Framing.
Map wall and floor types to framing presets and shop-drawing presets. Framing a mapped type skips the dialog entirely.
